One of the newest trends in gardening today is growing a native garden. Not sure what is native gardening or where to begin? Join Master Gardener Debbie Clark and learn about native gardening and its relationship with animals, insects and other organisms in the ecosystem. Bring a folding chair with you for your comfort. Join Aidan from BloomFly Fishing at Mountains Branch Library on Tuesday, July 23rd at 12:00pm for a fly-fishing demonstration. This will include discussing the best spots for fishing in Lake Lure, a list of all the supplies you will need, and maybe even some fly tying. This program is suitable for all ages, and no registration is required.

Fun and learning at Chimney Rock continues all year! Join us for our first ever Summer Homeschool Day and experience a day of hands-on educational programs and exploration in the park. Plus, keep the fun going by camping out under the stars in the Meadows area of the park. We can’t wait to spend time with our homeschool families!

07/26 - Habitat Restoration Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer with Conserving Carolina to get outdoors and help restore natural habitats in the Hickory Nut Gorge. Our Habitat Restoration Crew has monthly workdays in the Florence Nature Preserve. 

Help restore natural habitat and protect rare plants and wildlife by removing non-native, invasive plants and maintaining an important meadow habitat.

Volunteers will hike about one moderate mile and will learn invasive plant ID and herbicide safety.

Meet at the Conserving Carolina office (847 Case Street, Hendersonville) at 9:00AM or at the Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Trailhead at 10:00AM.

Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and bring water, snacks, and lunch.
